Jessika's Meeting Must Haves

"For every minute organising, an hour is earned"

So, I've been asked by MeetingsBooker to create an article about my Meeting Must Haves. For those of you who don't know, MeetingsBooker is a website that lets you search through a variety meeting rooms through your desired location. For example, if I wanted to arrange a corporate meeting in Dublin, I could scroll through available function rooms for a day and time that suits me. It saves time and effort of endless phone calls to hotels.

As a Event Management Student, young working professional and blogger, organisational is key for me. I am going to tell you what I believe are Must Haves for any meeting. The items will be beauty and office related and hopefully you might consider my tips for your next meeting!

1. Fresh Breath

I highly recommend bringing chewing gum or mints with you to any meeting. These should be something you should always have in your bag. Let's be honest, we don't want to meet someone for a meeting where you can smell their breakfast from their mouth. It's important to keep your breath fresh and clean when meeting people as it can be off putting ( I'm just keeping it real).

2. Perfume/ Deodorant

If this is a big or small meeting or gathering, we obviously want to look presentable and professional. However, we do need to smell it to. We all know how nervous we can get, so a few spritz of Deodorant or Perfume before you go in, will keep you feeling fresh. When it comes to perfume, choose a subtle smell as you don't want it to be too strong and some people might allergic- always be prepared for these type of scenario's! My current favourite perfume is "Ghost Girl" which is a subtle yet fruity fresh scent.

3. Pen and Notepad

I know, I am probably stating the obvious, but pens( bring two or three just incase) and a notepad are vital for meetings. I know with technology, people might use their laptops or tablets, however some people ( myself included) might prefer to write with a notepad and pen first to take notes. It really depends on the individual and what they prefer. However, its always have to have in your bag.

4. Diary

Whether it is a calendar on your phone or a hardback diary, this is always handy to have. For me, I overthink a lot and always have things on my mind and it is hard to keep track of it. Before I found a diary, I started using the Calendar on my phone to make note of any events I would be attending or any deadline I had. It felt good to put them in my calendar and set reminders if I needed to because it didn't mean I had to constantly think about them and remind myself. In a meeting, there is nothing worse seeing someone who you know is not mentally there as they are thinking or stressing about something else. Where, if you have yourself prepared and organised with a diary, you can live a less stressful life.

5. Hand Cream/ Gel

For professional purposes, a firm handshake is always key when meeting someone. We all know, a weak handshake is never liked, never be a afraid to give a strong but firm handshake as you want the person to remember you. However, we don't want to feel dry and rough hands. Bring along hand gel or hand cream with you for your meeting. If you don't want to bring it with you, there is sometimes hand cream in bathrooms that you can avail of.

6. Chargers

For all you tech savvy people, you know the pain of seeing the words "low battery". Always have the chargers for your different devices with you. Even if you charge your device fully the night before and you think it will be, its better to be safe than sorry, and bring your devices with you as you never know how long your meeting might be. For bloggers and business people, it is handy to invest in Portable Mobile Phone Chargers. You can buy these at a small prices in shops like Penneys, or if you would like to invest in a charger that will last you longer, you can buy one from shops here in Ireland like PC World or Harvey Norman. These are chargers that you can plug your device into on the go- no plugs needed!

7. Open Mind

I know, this sounds a bit crazy. Whether this could be an interview, or a meeting with a client or brand, always go in with an open mind. In a meeting, you are bound to discuss different topics and create solutions for any problems arising and it could be an opportunity to showcase your ideas. Regardless of the purpose of the meeting, try to go in with an open mind and stay positive. You will be unaware of what feedback or what could come out of the meeting, so its important to be open to any ideas and to understand the different things that could arise from meetings.

Okay, so that was a very proffessional blog post! Yes, I can be professional! So, I hope you learned a thing or two in relation to what my meetings must haves are. What are yours?

*The below items mentioned are my own opinions and if brands are mentioned, they are not sponsored. I was asking by MeetingBooker to create this blog article for a competition*

Stay tuned for more chaos,
