Tuesday Tips: Ace Your Exams!

For those who have been following me for a while, you might recognise this post. It's post I have risen from 2014. This post was originally aimed at Summer Exams, but I've decided to rename and give the post a revamp! For all you students out there, I'd hate to say it, but exams are approaching! Where have the past 3 months gone? It feels like only yesterday when I started back from my internship! So, here are some of my tips (some more obvious than others) to prep you for your exams.

1.Sleep
Okay, you will probably laugh when I said that, because yeah its obvious we need sleep. I have learned this past week, the getting the recommended amount of hours to sleep, helps you get through the day. I usually consider myself an owl because I think I never need to sleep. Over the past few months, I would of usually got 5-7 hours sleep a night. And I used to think I was okay with that. But, then it caught up on me. This past week, I kept thinking that I was going to be studying all day the week coming up to my exams and I needed to try and get to bed earlier and make myself sleep. And I did! I have been getting roughly 8-10 hours sleep and its helped me so much! I'm able to stay awake and I feel less lazy. Everyone is different, so I can't recommend how much sleep you should get. Sleep is important, so think about your patterns and see if you can improve them to help function more during the day.

2.Water

People who know me, know I am a water fan! I always have to have a bottle of water with me wherever I go and I am so lucky I have developed this habit. It is recommended that we drink at least 2 litres of water everyday. I roughly drink 2-3 litres a day and it helps so much. Water has so many benefits as you know, but it helps keep you refreshed during studying.

3.Plan, Plan & Plan!

As I am an Event Management student, I love to plan!  If you sit down and take time creating a plan, you will stick to it! Even making it pretty with stickers and highlighters can help! Break a week plan and roughly estimate what time you will get up, time you will have breakfast and so on.I always do them as early as possible before the studying period start. I try to be as realistic as possible but you never know what could end up happening on the day. Also, realistically you may not stick to it, but you can always change it. It's your plan, so make it unique and special, just like yourself!

4.Environment

It is so so so important to choose the right environment! As we are all different, there is no specific environment where everyone should study. Some study at home, others in library, outside in a garden or even in Starbucks. It is up to you to choose an environment that you feel comfortable and that will help you concentrate. Some people study better without distractions and some like distractions. Myself for example, I like small/few distractions. I study in the college library. A lot of students are lazy and always whisper around me, but this motivates me to work harder. So think carefully about your venue for studying!

5. Music or no music?

There has been many studies carried out to see if music helps you study better. But as I always say, people are different and studies don't always prove the truth. If you're ever in a library or even work, if you have a look around you will notice some listen to music and some aren't. Right now, I am listening to music but that helps me write blog posts. Whereas, when I'm doing college work, I have to turn my music off. I can't listen to music when I'm studying as I start to sing and dance in my seat and dream of my journey to fame. So yeah, for me, No music while studying.

6. Think positive & positive things will happen.

Being honest, I am pessimistic. But, this is a quality of my personality that I'm overcoming and improving. I love the thrill I get from motivating others around me. I always try to keep others positive and make them chase their dreams. And this is something I've been doing only in the past few years. So I am not as pessimistic as I was a few months. When you wake up in the morning, look into the mirror and convince yourself “Morning me! I am going to be awesome today”. What I like to do is pick out a really stylish outfit that makes me confident and this brings out my positivity. As I am a Spec's girl, I hate wearing my glasses because I feel like they cover up all my face, so I like to wear contacts. When I stick in my contacts and put some  make-up on, I feel good about myself. Some people do different things to make themselves feel confident and positive, and they are my ways! Tell me yours!

7.Laughter

Yes, I'd say you laughed ! We all know, the laughter is the best medicine and it is! When it comes to exams, we all try to put our heads down and not laugh or smile because it is a serious time. But come on, enjoy life! Laughter has been proven as one of the best stress busters. So the next time you have a study break, watch some TV shows like Friends or Big Bang Theory or  look up videos of cats ringing door bells! Even meet up with friends and laugh about how you embarrassed yourself in-front of a guy you liked. Life is short, so enjoy it. We are told to study smart and not hard, so lighten up and show your smile!

So, I hope these little tips help you prepare for your exams. Study is an obvious tip, so I didn't really need to say that. I wish everyone the best of luck in the exams! Let the celebrations after they're to motivate you that bit more!

                                                          Stay tuned for more chaos,

JB
