The Happiness Series: Relax, Refresh and Revive (Part One)

"Happiness is the secret to beauty, there is no beauty without happiness."

I think a lot of us are still "coming down" from the festive period that just passed. I never realised what "January Blues" were until after the new year. Yes, I know what they were but I never really felt them the way I do now. For me I suppose, I just began my exam period so it's kind of a downer so soon after Christmas. It's odd having so much time off but yet I know I can't do much because I do have to study. It's kind of scary that in a few weeks when lectures pick up again, I will be embarking on my last installment of my degree. I'm even getting butterflies as I type as I'm scared but excited, but more scared because I have a lot to do! But, I know some of you out there might be in the same boat as me, feeling slightly lower than usual as we are back to the reality of our lives after the festive season. So, I thought I would share some of my tips that I've learned in trying to pick yourself up again.

Yes, it's a new year that we just began, but as a friend said to me, it's just another day in the calender. Nothing technically magically happens when it turns 1st January. You are still the same person, living the same life and eating the same amount of Christmas leftovers as you did the day. But, it can be seen as a fresh start, the feeling of a new beginning is quite thrilling in this sense. So let's get you on a happy buzz, shall we?

1. Create a planner and become a planner.

When I began my college term last September, I brought a diary/planner. I'm the kind of person that I won't sleep if there is something on my mind or there's something I have to do. So, I write everything down in my diary. By writing things down or evening getting a planner app on your phone, you are able to organise yourself and hopefully not forget anything. It's important to update and keep to the diary. There is no point in buying it and using it for a few days. It's something you need to get into a routine of doing and you will feel a lot lighter in terms of brainload.

2. Think Positive

Slightly obvious, I think, but I'm just reminding you. It is slightly or nearly impossible to think that good things can happen if you're not thinking positive. You can look at all the inspiration Instagram quotes but they aren't going to do much for you. You can decide to think positive, you and you only. Like last Monday, I got up at 6.30 and when into my college library and studied for 11 hours. Sounds horrible right? Even though I was dreading it on the bus in, I kept thinking positive and something good will happen in time I'm there. To my wonder, I was sent lots of warm good luck wishes from readers and friends. Even those little things just put a smile on my face. Lately, when something bad happens to me, I sort of laugh at myself. Life is life, or as Hannah Montana would say " Life is what you make it". You can change how you see and feel things, but you've got to do it yourself.

3. Goals, Dreams & Fairytales

I've never really set goals in the past. My main reason is that I don't know what my goals in life are yet, and I'm ok with that. Sometimes I think I'm on a journey but I don't know the destination and I like how it's going. I take my life as it comes really and hope for the best. But, this year I set both blog and personal goals. I like the feeling of finally reaching a target or achieving things in your life. I think this is an important tip in recharging your happiness batteries. It's important to remember no dream is ever too big. Whatever you want in life, go get it! I'm serious, even if it is to own a unicorn, you go do it! It's been scientifically proven that people who write goals and dreams down end up achieving them. So, why not give it a go?

4. Release your inner happy emoji

I never really realised how good exercise really is. Naturally, I'm a non-sporty kind of girl who is lucky to even walk to the fridge when I'm hungry. But, I've realised how good I feel when I do a lot of walking around. I was lucky enough to get a membership with FlyeFit gym this year. I don't think anyone thought they would see the day of Selfie Girl going to a gym, some of my friends are slightly concerned because they know how lazy I can be. But, it's a small step in becoming happier. I'm simply going to realise those happy endorphins and to feel good about myself and my body isn't in the best of shape either. If you're slightly lazy like me, try and start of by walking or a light job. You can even take up a class like Yoga or Pilates. My excuse was that I never had time to go to the gym, but that's like saying I don't have time to be happy. Dedicate the time and try to stick to it.

Part Two of this blog post will be live on Wednesday.

Until then,

Stay tuned for more chaos,

Jess X
